Why Craft & Last

Craft & Last was born out of a single mission: to make slow fashion more accessible. My grandmother taught me to knit. For centuries, humans have woven, spun, dyed, knitted and crocheted yarn; that knowledge is still here, but it has been overshadowed by the fast fashion industry.

By choosing to spend your money on a slow fashion marketplace, you directly support the designers and knitters who keep an ancient craft and its knowledge alive: no factories, no marketing departments, no margin-obsessed stakeholders. It is my hope that every time you put on your finished piece, you feel the care and dedication it was made with, and keep it to cherish.

Unlike anywhere else

The only marketplace where designers earn every time their pattern is made.

Independent designers spend months on a single pattern, only to see it copied and now scraped by AI. Here, every design is properly licensed and its designer earns a royalty on every piece a maker knits. Meanwhile, makers who are keeping this craft alive can earn from their expertise without having to set up their own shop.

How Craft & Last Works

From brief to heirloom in three steps.

01

Choose Your Style

Pick a design from the board, then share your size, colours, and yarn budget.

02

Approve the Swatch

Your maker knits a test swatch first, so you sign off on yarn and colour before the full piece begins.

03

Receive Your Heirloom

Made to your exact measurements and delivered to your door, to keep for decades.

Where your money goes

Your payment covers the yarn, the hours your maker spends knitting your piece by hand, and a royalty to the independent designer who created the pattern. It also includes a small platform fee that keeps Craft & Last running and supporting our makers and designers. All of it is already built into the price you see, never added on top.

New · Bespoke commissions

Describe it. We'll knit it.

Have something specific in mind? Go bespoke. Our network of expert makers will help turn your dream garment into reality. Bespoke pieces start from a brand new pattern, drafted just for you, so they carry a higher price than our ready made designs. And rest assured, every garment is designed by a human, never AI.

Original pieces only. We never copy another brand's design · nothing begins until you approve a quote

Meet the Makers

Every garment on Craft & Last is made by a skilled, independent maker; real people with real craft and genuine care in every piece they make.

Our Philosophy

Making slow fashion as accessible as fast fashion.

Fast fashion is everywhere because it is effortless. It's the easy, convenient solution. Slow fashion is everywhere as well, but it remains a space that is intrinsically difficult to access: you must know where to look, where to go, who to follow. Most talented crafters do not sell their work. Ethical handmade brands do not have a high marketing budget. Slow fashion does not make itself visible and accessible to consumers, so they pick fast fashion by default. But we believe many wish they had another option.

Craft & Last is the first platform of its kind: a proper marketplace where the desire to own something beautiful and enduring meets the skills of the independent makers who can bring it to life. Customers get genuine craftsmanship at a transparent price, and wonderful styles by talented independent designers they would never have discovered otherwise. Makers get steady commissions without the overhead of running a shop. Designers earn royalties every time their pattern is made. Everyone who puts something of themselves into a piece benefits from it.

We are also honest about something that most platforms in this space would rather not say: textile art is one of the oldest and most demanding crafts in history, and it is almost impossible to price fairly. The rates on Craft & Last represent what we believe is a sustainable compromise. We know, because we constantly have open conversations with every maker and designer on this platform, that they do not fully capture what it means to spend weeks creating something by hand, stitch by stitch, to another person's exact measurements. If you commission a piece, we hope you will take a moment to sit with that.

Tipping is one small way to say that you see the work behind the work, but we also encourage you to simply take some time to say thank you to your maker. We know this is imperfect, and we do not pretend otherwise. But we are working directly with every maker and designer who has joined us, all of whom share the belief that this is worth building and worth improving. We will keep raising the floor as the platform grows.

The founder

Clélia, founder of Craft & Last

Clélia

After years working in big tech, I found my way back to my creative roots, and I haven't looked back since. Alongside my husband, I run a business bringing improv theatre skills into the corporate world, so creativity has always been at the heart of everything I do.

Craft & Last is my latest venture, and perhaps my most personal one. I'm an expert knitter myself, and for a long time I'd been thinking about how to turn that passion into something fair, safe, and straightforward for everyone involved. That thinking eventually became Craft & Last.

I'm tired of walking into so-called "luxury" stores and finding polyester blend knitwear with an inflated price tag. I don't think consumers are indifferent to ethics or quality; I just think the convenient choice and the right choice haven't been the same thing yet. Most people would love to support an individual maker and own a piece that lasts a lifetime. They just need it to be easy.

For Designers

Great patterns deserve
lasting recognition.
And a royalty to match.

When someone commissions a hand-knit piece based on your design, your creative work is at the heart of it. Craft & Last is built on the belief that designers should be part of that value exchange, not an afterthought.

Every commission on our platform results in a direct pattern purchase from your shop: the maker buys your pattern using funds released as part of the commission, and you receive an automatic royalty. No chasing, no invoicing, no admin.

Every commission pays you twice:
First, a guaranteed pattern purchase from your shop: the maker buys your pattern directly, a real sale you would not otherwise have seen. Then, a 5% royalty is drawn from Craft & Last's service charge, deposited automatically to your Stripe account. On a typical sweater commission, that's around £6–8 in pattern revenue plus £9–15 in royalty. Zero admin. Zero invoicing. You write the pattern once; it earns every time it's made.
Apply as a Designer Partner → Takes about 5 minutes · No commitment until we approve your application

A Mandatory Pattern Sale on Every Commission

Every commission includes a mandatory pattern purchase from your shop. The client pays the pattern fee as part of their total quote; the maker then buys your pattern directly from your Ravelry page or wherever you sell. Guaranteed new sales, every time.

5%

Automatic Royalty: No Invoicing

On every commission your design inspires, 5% of the maker's labour fee is deposited automatically to your Stripe account. No admin. No chasing. You make beautiful patterns; we handle the rest.

Full Attribution on Every Listing

Your name, linked to your shop, appears on every commission your work informs. Every customer who commissions through Craft & Last knows exactly whose creative vision they are celebrating.

No Exclusivity. No Lock-In.

We do not host, reproduce, or distribute your patterns. Makers buy directly from your shop. You keep selling everywhere you do today. You can withdraw at any time, and the first 30 days come with a no-questions-asked exit guarantee.

For Makers

You Keep Your Full Rate. Always.

No subscription, no listing fee, ever. A flat 15% Platform & Designer Fee is charged to the customer on top of your quote: never deducted from it. What you quote is what you receive.

🧶

Yarn Funded Before You Cast On

Your material costs are released the moment the customer pays in full. You never spend your own money on a project.

The Swatch is Your Legal Shield

Once the customer approves your swatch, post-approval complaints about colour, texture, or gauge are contractually excluded.

Automatic Payout: No Chasing

50% of your labour fee releases when the customer approves your swatch. The rest releases on delivery confirmation, or automatically 7 days after dispatch, whichever comes first.
